Overview
Scaling Dining Reservations with Partner-Managed Payments
As part of Google Search's initiative to scale dining reservations, I co-led the development of a redirect experience that allows partners to manage the entire booking and payment process on their own platforms. This project was primarily for partners who required more control over complex reservations involving deposits, no-show fees, and prepaid inventory.
Key Personal Achievements:
- Designed and implemented a URI template system including a parser and validator using IETF RFC6570 Level 2 specification, integrating it into already existing feeds
- Created efficient ingestion for large-scale reservation data
- Designed and implemented conversion tracking for redirected transactions
- Worked with team to create developer documentation for partner onboarding
- Met with partners ad-hoc to help resolve any onboarding issues
Partner Collaboration
A significant aspect of this project was the close collaboration with partner companies. This involved:
- Regular meetings to understand partner needs and existing systems
- Creating and sharing sample feeds for testing and validation
- Providing technical support and guidance throughout the integration process
Impact
- Onboarded new partners who previously couldn't integrate due to complex reservation requirements
- Expanded coverage for existing partners, allowing them to include high-value inventory that required deposits or prepayments
- Improved conversion rates for partners by allowing them to manage the entire booking and payment process on their own platforms
- Built conversion tracking process and reporting system, enabling partners to measure the effectiveness of the redirect experience and optimize their conversion funnel
